SearchForum Home   Forum  IDS Policy Mana...  IDS Policy Mana...  IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator   Previous   Next    3/18/2008 6:38 PM    Kelly 3 posts IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  I am using the IDS Policy Manager plugin with the Activeworx Security Console 4.5.  I am unable to use the Putty Key Generator to connect to my snort sensor.  When I click on the generator, I just get an error message that says "Error Starting PuTTY Key Generator".  Is there something additional that needs to be installed to be able to use this?  Thanks!  3/19/2008 5:07 AM    Jeff Dell 228 posts www.activeworx.com Re: IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  Putty Key Generator was not installed... this has been fixed in the latest build for registered users. You can also get it from the author: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html Download PuTTYgen.exe and put it in the ASC desktop directory and the button will now work. Cheers, Jeff  3/19/2008 8:23 PM    Kelly 3 posts Re: IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  Thanks, that seemed to fix the Putty generator error but I am not having trouble with the actual public key authentication.  I am getting the error message "Connect - System error:  Server rejected username/publickey.  Allowed authentication methods: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password".  Do you have any ideas what could be causing this?  Thanks!  3/19/2008 8:29 PM    Jeff Dell 228 posts www.activeworx.com Re: IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  I would suggest reading the docs closely on how to configure IDSPM for public key encryption. many people miss a step or 2 and causes it to fail. Cheers, Jeff  3/20/2008 4:12 PM    Kelly 3 posts Re: IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  I have redone and double checked step 2 several times and I think I have it correct.  Do you have an example of what the authorized_keys file should look like on the sensor?  When I do a debug with ssh, I'm just getting the message "Failed publickey for snort".  It will then ask me for a password.  Thanks!  3/25/2008 2:07 AM    Jeff Dell 228 posts www.activeworx.com Re: IDS Policy Manager Putty Generator  If you look at the documentation there is a screenshot of what it should look like. you have to highlight what is in the box and copy it to the clipboard.. it does not work if you click on file/save or conversions/export.
