Policy Database Selection Option
Modified By cx on 5/15/2008 11:03:48 AM)

Hi Jeff,

Will it be possible to add a feature to IDSPM to enable you to select different databases?

The problem that I have is if I add 10+ policies, IDSPM then takes a long time to update all those files since the IDSPM DB grows to 300 MB+.

Let me know what your idea is.

Thanks

Craig

Re: Policy Database Selection Option

We are working on IDSPM v3. This new version is going to have a major rework of the backend. We are going to be switching the DB engine so that will work with 64bit OS and the schema is going to be streamlined to support a large number of policies without inflating the db like it currently does. This should increase performance across the board and have a single location for all policies rather then multiple databases.

This is also a good time if you have any feature requests.

Cheers,

Jeff

Re: Policy Database Selection Option

now that you asked... :P

Will it be possible to add a feature that invokes a wizard that allows the user to enter certain information like home network, DNS server, stream, mem, etc. It should also complete the policy file for the user so that the best pratice settings (or recommended) ones are pre defined for the user.

Maybe some other people can comment on this. Maybe start a thread for v3 feature requests?

As always thanks for a great product Jeff!

The guys at Activeworx all must get a pat on the back for the great work they do!

Regards,

Craig

In the ASC version, get the Add Suppression for ... functions working. Right now I need to do a View Snort Rule and add them manually. The Disable Snort Rule function does work correctly.

In the Upload Policies to Sensors dialog box, change the phrasing on the far right-hand Status column to remove the words "Sensor is" and "Sensor". Due to my long location descriptions and sensor names a sensor that needs updated displays as "Sensor n" and one that is current displays as "Sensor is". If they displayed as "Needs updated" and "Current" respectively, it wouldn't strain my aged eyes so much. :-)

What version of ASC/IDSPM are you using? I thought this was resolved about 6 months ago.

Cheers,

Jeff

A beta should be available in about a month. We are finishing up ASC v5 (some amazing new features in this release I might add) and then some time will be freed up to finishup IDSPM v3.

Cheers,

Jeff

Using ASC IDSPM version 2.2.0.22 and ASC 4.5 dot 50. When I do a Disable, I get a message box saying the rule is disabled. When I do an Add Suppression, nothing happens and the suppression is not added.

BTW, we just had a wholesale DHCP change and I was dreading having to find all of tghe suppressions in all of the rules and fixing them. Then I noticed I could do it from IDSPM in the Supprerssion section easily. It only took afew minutes total. Nice work, again!

Re: Policy Database Selection Option

I just took it from 2.2.0.22 to 2.2.0.23 and the suppression functions still aren't working.

BTW, the email notification of responses to forum posts isn't working either.

Take care,

Ray
